news

You may remember that towards the end of October, Firaxis announced that it was teaming up with developer Aspyr to port the world-creation simulator Civilization V to Macintosh machines. At that time, we were promised that the game would be out during the "holiday season", but that was as much as we knew. Today, however, the developer's website has been update with both a release date, and the option to pre-order (via GameAgent.com). Now the world knows that beginning on November 23rd, Civ V will be available for Mac.

Late in Septemeber EA Sports announced that their newly monikered basketball title, NBA Elite 11, would be delayed until some time in the first quarter of next year. However it now looks like even that was an optimistic goal, as during an investor conference call yesterday, EA president John Schappert announced that the game had been cancelled altogether. He went on to tell the investors that in the future, development of the NBA license would be shifted from the studios of EA Canada to the Orlando offices of EA Tiburon.

If you're a DirecTV subscriber, you may have noticed a change in your channel line-up today. Although, as you'll see in a moment, maybe you didn't notice anything at all. The satellite content provider has announced that it has stopped carrying the G4 network, the video game-centric cable channel owned by Comcast. This came after negotiations between the two companies ended on Sunday with no agreement.

UPDATE: The hearings have now ended, and both sides are still unsure which way the Court is leaning. You can read the full transcripts here.

While people are heading to the polls today to decide which party will control the legislative branch of the US Government, there is another noteworthy event happening in the judicial branch. The Supreme Court will today hear arguments in a debate over California's 2005 law which forbids the sale or rental of violent video games to minors. At issue are two lower court rulings which have put enforcement of the law on hold, maintaining that it's too vague and violates the First Amdendment.

We here at Epic Boobs have no shame in admitting that we are attracted to men. Not all men, mind you. But there is a certain quality we each look for in a man, and on today's show, we talk about our mancrushes. Some might say that this is strictly a PR move to prove that we're not sexist bastards, but in all honesty, we just wanted to share with you our secret loves. Maybe now, you won't feel so bad about admitting yours. Feel free to in the comments below. We look forward to a civilized discourse.

Non-Player Chronicles - Episode One

Everyone knows the story of the main heroes of the games we all play and love. Link's adventures have been well documented, Master Chief has been given three stories to let his tale be told, and for years, countless other main characters have gotten the attention they so richly deserve. But what about the other entities? The so-called "lesser" characters, the behind-the-scenes shop owners, villagers, and background sprites? Isn't it entirely possible that they too have deep and rich stories to tell?

Scorpion Throws Chained Spears in New Mortal Kombat Trailer

news

Let's see; so far we have a pretty impressive list of known characters who will be in the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot. Already confirmed are Reptile, Sub Zero, Mileena, Kitana, Cyrax, Johnny Cage, Raiden, Shao Kahn, Cyrax, Kung Lao, Nightwolf, Mileena, Sektor, and most recently, Jax. Meanwhile, there have also been a few trailers released for the game, almost all of them showing off one character in specific: Scorpion. While it's arguable that Scorpion is the franchise's best-known and most loved fighter (a strong case could be made for Sub Zero), as a fan of the series, I'd like to get a look at someone else. Still, as you can see above, Scorpion is back, and he's bringing an arsenal of hard-hitting punches, a nearly infinite supply of sharpened spears, and his trademark vocal stylings.

With fan-favorite characters like Deadpool, Arthur, Frank West, and Viewtiful Joe, as well as big-time stars like Ryu, Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Dante, the roster for next year’s ridiculously anticipated fighter, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, is already shaping up to be a fan-service dream.  An image from Capcom’s Halloween party may have revealed yet another fighter, and yet again, it’s someone that fans have been begging to play as for years; Mike Haggar.

The upcoming Thor: The Video Game acts as a prequel of sorts to Marvel’s feature film. Taking place largely in the dimension Asgard calls home, Thor will travel across the Nine Worlds in a story penned by Matt Fraction. I spoke with the game’s producer Stephen Frost about what we can expect from the game when it arrives next year.

PopCap Announces Bejeweled 3

news

Ten years ago, a then little known game developer named PopCap released its first game, a gem-matching puzzle title called Bejeweled. Since then, over half a billion people have purchased the game over 50 million times and have wasted spent over 7.5 billion hours playing it. In fact, according to PopCap's own calculations, the game is continuing to sell at a rate of one copy every 4.3 seconds. Sales figures like that can only mean one thing: sequels. PopCap has already been churning out follow-ups, including Bejeweled 2, Bejeweled Twist, and Bejeweled Blitz. Today they've let us know that coming soon will be Bejeweled 3, the first true sequel to the franchise in over six years.

X-MEN VIGNETTES

Superheroes are more than just a set of powers and a spandex costume. In the hands of a skilled writer/artist team, they can be just as emotionally engaging and multi-faceted as any other character in fiction. This was the book that taught me that lesson.

Josh's Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

blog

This weekend is Halloween.  If you are like me, you probably already have your costume idea well thought out and completed.  You've probably made all of your adjustments to your sexy kitten get-up, or your sexy maid costume, making sure your thongs and garters are ironed and adjusted to fit just right.  I mean, who wouldn't have a costume ready two days before Halloween and a day before the day when most Halloween parties are going to be jumpin' off like House Party II?  Anyone who doen't have a costume ready is going to look like an idiot at best.  They're probably going to lose all the friends at their respective parties and nobody will have sex with them…ever.

OH GOD, I'M NOT READY!

Okay, okay, I sort of lied in an effort to assuage my own fears and insecurities about not being fully prepared for the Halloween festivities.  But don't worry…unlike for me, there is still hope for you!

I've compiled a list/tutorial of last minute Halloween costume ideas for you.  These costumes will most likely be the hit of any spooky celebration and WILL cause a severe case of "Getting Laid" (chlamydia).  I tried to keep them as gender nonspecific as possible so that both males and broads could don them.  But honestly, if you're a chick and you're reading this, you've got bigger problems than not having a Halloween costume…Ok, lets get started!

During an appearance on last night's Gametrailers TV, Mortal Kombat creator and creative lead Ed Boon revealed yet another character that will be coming to the hyper-violent reboot of the renowned series, that being Major Jackson Briggs, more popularly known as Jax. Some new footage was also debuted, showing off that Jax's signature metal arms, first introduced in MK3 are back, although they're a little more intense than in previous games. In keeping with what we already know about the new MK, Jax will be bringing back a lot of fan favorite moves, but with the intensity kicked up a few notches.

No Demon's Souls Sequel Planned

news

Demon’s Souls, in addition to having a grammatically improper title (unless a single demon possesses several souls), was one of the most polarizing games of the year.  It’s unique death-centric mechanics and innovative online components thrilled many fans, but it’s brutal difficulty, lackluster combat mechanics, and uncompromising structure proved too frustrating for others.  Still, several gaming publications named it their Game of the Year, and hopes were high for a sequel.  Today those hopes were dashed when From Studios announced that there are no plans for a second Demon’s Souls.  At least not yet.

Can you believe it's over a year since Trials HD dropped on Xbox Live? It seems like only yesterday when this entire office was spending hour after hour attempting to one-up each other on the leaderboards, trying to unlock all of the tracks, and climb to the highest point in King of the Hill. Since the game's release, you may think that you've seen everything Trials has to offer, but according to a new video from developer RedLynx, there's apparently a lot more you have yet to see.
