Each Tuesday, I'm here to help you figure out which comic books to spend that hard-earned paper on Wednesday at your Local Comic Shop.
DC Comics

BATMAN #673
The third issue since Tony Daniel joined acclaimed writer, Grant Morrison on BATMAN. Morrison’s take on the Dark Knight is something everyone should enjoy. Besides, since rumors of his death are circulating across the interwebs, why not get in early on what may be the end of Bruce Wayne? $2.99 is not a bad price to get in on a cultural phenomenon early.

GREEN LANTERN #27
Still reeling in the aftermath of the Sinestro Corps War, the Green Lanterns have chosen to create “Alpha” Lanterns. What this means, I don’t know. It looks like we’re only going to have to pay $2.99 for some answers, though.

SPIRIT #13
Take a look inside a jam session issue focusing on the Spirit’s femme fatales. Only paying $2.99 to see some Eduardo Risso artwork, and some Gail Simone words doesn’t seem fair to DC.

Y: THE LAST MAN #60
This is it, the final issue of Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra’s apocalyptic epic. $4.99 for 48 pages of finale. That math works out to me.
MARVEL Comics

CAPTAIN AMERICA #34
It’s been just under a year since Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, was assassinated. Now, a new Captain America emerges. Be there for a new era in Marvel history. Admission is only $2.99.
PS- This book is written by Ed “You’ll Regret Not Reading This” Brubaker. Get used to seeing his name here a lot.

DAREDEVIL #104
Oh my God, another Ed Brubaker book. What a surprise. But not really. Ever since he and Michael Lark took over the DAREDEVIL regular series, it’s been a non-stop, adrenaline fueled thrill-ride. There’s no reason to think this issue will be any different. $2.99 to keep this book, and my inability to say anything bad about Ed Brubaker, alive.

NEW AVENGERS ANNUAL
A butt-load of Marvel storylines converge here. Also, a perfect point to jump on the “Secret Invasion” boat. Believe me, when this summer hits and “Secret Invasion” is all the rage, you’ll thank me for recommending you drop $4.99 on this 48 pager.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #118
You like Spider-Man. Everyone does. The Ultimate line harkens back to a simpler time (pre-One More Day/ Brand New Day) in Peter Parker’s life. A new story-arc begins here as well. Honestly, could you look Aunt May in the eye and say her nephew wasn’t worth $2.99? Could you?
Trade Paperback/ Hardcover of the Week
YOUNG AVENGERS HC
Alan Heinberg and Jim Cheung deliver what could have ended up a horrible TEEN TITANS rip-off, but instead became one of Marvel’s freshest series of the last 5 years. Heinberg nails these teen characters better than anyone could have hoped. Don’t think for one second that Jim Cheung’s art doesn’t just jump off the page either. Though the series only lasted 13 issues (Heinberg couldn’t keep up his comic work load as well as work on TV show, THE OC), the $29.99 asking price for a complete work is completely reasonable. And honestly, if you don’t fall in love with “Hawkingbird” during this series, something is wrong with your heart.

See you next week.

I don't want Batman to die! That's almost as sad as no more Y: the Last Man. Tear...
Man what a week! The previous weeks of the new year seem to have been lacking but this week is stacked!
Exclamation points!
I just found out BLACK SUMMER #5 will also be shipping this week. It was delayed a few weeks, but should've made this week's list. From the warped mind of Warren Ellis and the ridiculous pencils of Juan Jose Ryp, a story of the 5 "super-heroes" inhabiting America and their rebellion against the government. $2.99 at your LCS.
Killing Bruce Wayne?! Oh man... that sucks...
Just got back from work, and I'm a little annoyed. I really hope Batman doesn't die...and I really hope DC stays away from the 52 universe stuff. It really turns me off.
Previews seems to indicate otherwise. As long as Morrison's writing it, I can't say I'm not going to read it. I have faith he'll at least make it a decent read. Whether or not DC will stick with it (unlike Marvel and his nearly neglected New X-Men) is something we'll have to see.
