Before we begin, GAMERVISION and I are giving away FREE COMICS!! Don't miss out on this golden opportunity to win free schwag. Don't just write it off if you don't like superheroes. We're not even giving away superhero comics. It's a Mature Readers title. C'mon, you know you wanna.
Each Tuesday, I'm here to help you figure out which comic books to spend that hard-earned paper on Wednesday at your Local Comic Shop.
DARK HORSE
Buffy The Vampire Slayer #11
Joss Whedon has not let a single fan down with this triumphant return to the character that put him on the map. Season 8, as they’re calling it, has been packed full of Whedony goodness. Georges Jeanty’s art has also been a pleasant surprise. If you miss the Scoobies as much as I do, $2.99 is a bargain price for this jumping on point issue.
DC Comics
Detective Comics #841
Paul Dini has been doing a masterful job writing Batman, who is clearly his favorite superhero. Dustin Nguyen has always been a favorite of mine, and he’s handling the art chores on the Dark Knight’s flagship book very well. If you loved the animated series at all (where Dini cut his teeth on Bats), there’s no reason not to spend $2.99 on this fine piece of work.
Justice Society of America #12
Dale Eaglesham has finally been put on a book worthy of his pencils. Doesn’t hurt that he’s working from a Geoff Johns’ script, either. Smack in the middle of a great storyline, the Justice Society has been working overtime to stay on my pull list. And it delivers every week. $2.99 for some blue-collared, old-fashioned super heroics.
Northlanders #3
Brian Wood is one of Vertigo’s harder working writers. Northlanders centers on a former Viking, named Sven, returned home after his father’s demise to claim his rightful place as ruler. Too bad everyone thought Sven was dead. Get on board here for only $2.99 before you’re left in the dust, and made an outcast like someone who missed the LOST season 4 premiere.
Scalped #14
This was one of my best new series of the year. It’s not too late for you to join in on the brutally honest story of Dashiel Badhorse. If you love crime, western or mafia-esque stories, there’s no better way to spend $2.99 this week.
IMAGE Comics
SCUD the Disposable Assassin #21
Rob Schrab hasn’t put an issue of this out in years. He’s been too busy directing MONSTER HOUSE and episodes of THE SARAH SILVERMAN SHOW. Handling both art and writing chores is tough enough when it’s your first job. SCUD is a disposable robotic assassin. When we last saw him, angels hired him to bring about Armageddon in order to save the woman he loved. It’s trippy, but in a good way. I’ve been waiting for this forever. Finally seeing this book begin its conclusion is definitely worth $3.50.
MARVEL Comics
Amazing Spider-Man #549
While I haven’t been the biggest supporter of Brand New Day, I do enjoy Marc Guggenheim’s writing and Salvador Larocca’s art. Teaming those two up here on a new story arc seems like it can’t miss. Join me in giving Spidey’s new direction a chance for only $2.99.
Clandestine #1
Alan Davis is one of comicdom’s great masters. His creation, CLANDESTINE, has always been enjoyable. Centering on a family of super powered beings outside of the Marvel universe, Davis continues to surprise me with what he’ll put the Destine clan up against. I see no reason why my $2.99 won’t find its way into his pocket.
Trade paperback/Hardcover of the Week
Scalped v. 2- "Casino Boogie"
Hey, look who it is. Murder. Mystery. Intrigue. Indians. I never had a clue what life was really like for those real Americans. Though I’m sure this is quite a fictionalization of what life on the rez is like, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t make for one hell of a read. Jason Aaron has done a phenomenal job of keeping me interested in the monthly exploits of Dash Badhorse. RM Guerra’s art helps keep the mood dark and heavy. If you haven’t taken my advice already, please, start taking it now. You won’t be disappointed spending $14.99 on this.
This week I'm throwing in a bonus coupon. Print it out, fill it out, take it to your LCS, and wait for the day Anna Mercury arrives. I'm leading you down a good path here people. Just trust me.

We just got an Anna Mercury promo poster in last week. I gotta wake up tomorrow at 8:30am to bring these comics in from the UPS truck. :-/
YES, Buffy makes my week.
They're bringing back Clandestine?! Seriously? Oh, and this thing runs much smoother now that it's running on Gamervision.
Vikings are cool, though they've gotten quite a bad rep over the years.
