Batcave Coming to Home

Holy Who Gives A Shit?!

by 00.19

Today the PlayStation blog unveiled the first official images of the Batcave, the Home space for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Asylum game. The cave beneath Wayne manor will be available to those who purchase the Eidos game on August 25th. If you were conflicted before over which console to buy the game for, this will not affect your decision at all.

While it is nice that there are game-specific Home spaces appearing more frequently, I just can't find it in my heart to care. Particularly since this Batcave is but a mere shadow of that of which I'm accustomed to in the comics. The Home version features such standouts as the Batmobile, Batplane, and computer. None of which you can do anything with except stare blankly at the horrible design. Now, take a look at this depiction of the Batcave by Jim Lee from All-Star Batman and Robin.

I'm not saying the Batcave in Home needed to be this intricate, but it's almost a slap in the face how little detail there is. Where's the giant penny? The row of costumes on display from earlier versions of the Batsuit to the various side-kicks? Where's the sense that this is more than a mere cave with computers? There's no love or soul in this place. It might as well be just another random place for people to not hang out in. I'm disappointed. Not just in whoever designed this ramshackle, disparate locale, but in the people in charge who saw this and said, "Yes, exactly what we were looking for." Shame on all of you.

ah the giant penny. there's so many things to love about the batcave, but the giant penny sort of trumps everything else.

When I first heard about this, I thought, "sounds cool". I was wrong.
