UPDATE: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Wii Bound

No, Not The New One. The One From Two Years Ago.

UPDATE: Activision has made it official. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is coming to the Wii this November. You can check out the full press release below.

It appears that tomorrow, Activision will be announcing that Treyarch is porting Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to the Wii. Or at least that's what Kotaku believes. The site is reporting that on November 10, the same day that CoD: Modern Warfare 2 ships, Nintendo Wii owners will be able to get their hands on a watered down version of one of the best games of 2007.

I couldn't tell you why Activision and Treyarch are waiting until this November to release a two-year old game on the Nintendo Wii, but I'm sure they'll have no problem moving copies. The fact that Treyarch is involved doesn't exactly boost my confidence in this rumored title, but at least we know that nobody at Infinity Ward has been split off the main development group to spend time trying to add waggle controls to a game they have since moved on from.

Even stranger is the fact that the game coming to the Wii isn't a version of Modern Warfare 2. Does it really take that long for Treyarch to fuck up somebody else's franchise? I kid, I kid. Not really, though. With the exception of Call of Duty: World at War, Treyarch hasn't exactly made games that could stand on their own. By that I mean without the help of someone else's franchise tag stuck on the front of the box. Perhaps this will be the game that changes perceptions, but I doubt it. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Treyarch corporate, "A mature rated shooter can't miss on the Wii!"

Why do I get the feeling that this will become a cartoon rip-off of itself, and that Nintendo fan-people will [most likely] not purchase the game anyway? Just seems excessive. There are a few "hardcore" titles on the Wii that nobody owns already. Why not just give up producing hardcore titles for the Wii and call the console Captain Fancy Pants?
