DS Vision Download Service Coming Tomorrow
To Japan Only Suckers.
by 00.19
If you’ve been looking for a service to provide you with video and comic content for your DS, I have good news… as long as you live in Japan. The company am3 will be launching DS Vision on July 3rd. The service will have literary content available for download featuring titles from Shinkou Bunkou, and videos featuring Speed Racer and Gachaman. Of course, you won’t be able to download anything without DS Vision Starter Kit. The kit includes a 512MB micro SD card which you download the content onto, then plug into an adapter to make it all work on your DS. The best part (aside from the fact you can’t get this in America) is you have to have their kit. No other SD card will work. While there is no list of all the content as of yet, if you visit DSVision.jp, you can find demos of how the service will reportedly work.

Despite this only being available in Japan for the time being, if it does well enough, we may be seeing a similar service over here. There’s already talk of the Wii getting involved with digital distribution, and if you close your eyes and dream a little, you can imagine the possibilities of downloading comics and videos to your Wii, then taking that download on the go with your DS. Considering the PSP is the only portable gaming system in America to have those kinds of capabilities at the moment, there’s plenty of DS’s out there that could make use of this interesting concept. Stay tuned to Gamervision to see just how far Nintendo is going to take digital distribution in the future.
