E3 10: inFamous 2 Trailer Lights Up the Screen

New Town, New Powers, New Cole.

Shown off at the Sony E3 press conference, the new inFamous 2 trailer is chock full of new information about Sucker Punch's 2011-shipping sequel. Though it's not the first look at the game (inFamous 2 debuted in this month's Game Informer), it is our first look at the game in motion. Those of you who played the original game will take note that Cole's got a bit of a different look this time around, and that's due in large part to the developer's feeling that the original model just wasn't relatable enough. I have to agree, as in the first game, no matter if you played as a hero or a villain, Cole looked like too much of a hardass. Though I do think this updated look is a bit too handsome, I don't have a problem with Sucker Punch's decision.

The new trailer also gives us a better look at the new New Orleans-inspired locale. There's been no explanation as of yet why there's been a shift in location, but I think we can all agree that revisiting Empire City wouldn't have done the franchise any good. As large as it was, there wasn't much ground left to tread after exploring nearly every nook and crany in inFamous. Cole's also got a few new weapons at his disposal this time around. Most importantly, it looks like we'll be able to manipulate ice in addition to electricity in the follow-up. A new lightning rod-like melee weapon also makes a brief showing in the trailer. Expanding upon the game's combat would serve this new game well because even though fighting wasn't terrible in the original, it certainly wasn't anything to write home about.

inFamous 2 is still quite a ways off, but things are looking good for the Sony exclusive. If it's anywhere near as enjoyable as the first game, it looks as if Sucker Punch will have another hit on their hands.
