Shinji Mikami knows a thing or two about creating video games. Platinum Games knows a thing or two about making recent hits, and their upcoming joint venture with Mikami looks like it's going to be just as impressive and memorable as Bayonetta and MadWorld. Vanquish is a third-person shooter that takes place in some near future where America is under attack. We've already apparently lost San Francisco, and the military doesn't look like it's going to sit idly by any longer. With some pretty intense firefights, huge over the top character design, and weapons that would put many of its contemporaries to shame, Vanquish looks like its going to be the next big thing.
The game looks incredibly fast-paced, which for a cover-based shooter is an interesting approach. Typically cover-based shooters are all about taking your time, but Vanquish looks to be breaking that trend, putting more of an emphasis on contstantly shooting and staying on the move. It looks like there's some sort of point-based scoring system in place. I'm interested to hear how that will play into game, and whether it will act like a Devil May Cry system, or more along the lines of The Club. Hopefully Coop or Sarah will get their hands on the game this week so they can get me even more hyped up for the October shipping title.
