Gamestop Reveals Yakuza 3 Pre-Order Incentive

This Means It's Really Coming Out, Right?

by 00.19

I'm not sure if you guys know this, but I'm a pretty big fan of Sega's Yakuza series. So big in fact, that the day Sega announced Yakuza 3 would be coming to America, I pooped my pants with excitement. Of course, then I found out the game was releasing the day after Final Fantasy XIII, thus condeming yet another game in the franchise to low sales, and quite possibly shattering my hopes that Yakuza 4 would also be brought to our shores. But, I can't worry about that right now. Today, I'm proud to tell you that Gamestop has two pretty cool pre-order incentives for the three of us who can't wait to get their hands on this game.

For one, reserving your copy early will net you a five dollar discount when you pick the game up. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, and it isn't, but it's better than nothing, and will pretty much cancel out the sales tax. The bigger deal though is the Challenge Pack, which will allow you access to some two-player mini-games like bowling, golf, pool, and darts. Sadly, it doesn't look like the karaoke mini-game will have a co-operative mode, which is a damn shame because that's where I spent nearly all my time when I was playing the Japanese demo. I may not have known the songs, but I'll be damned if it wasn't hillarious to play.

Yakuza 3 will also be bringing back the dating/escort management portion the series has been known for, albeit with more depth, and you'll be pleased to hear that early adopters will gain new costumes for three of the women who I think are some of the waitresses/ladies of the evening you can interact with on a regular basis. Typically, I don't care about alternate costumes as an ordering incentive, but they'll probably have an actual impact on the relationship the main character, Kazuma, has with the three bombshells.

While many of you will assuredly be playing one of the most anticipated RPGs of all time this March, I'll be enjoying the hell out of what's sure to be the best game nobody plays in 2010.

This is a pretty good deal... hopefully good enough for this game not to get completely overlooked in the wake of FFXIII.
