Green Day: Rock Band Punches Retail in the Face June 8th

47 Tracks Of Teen Angst... Now With Harmonizing!

by 00.19

Today, Harmonix and EA revealed the release date for the slightly anticipated Green Day: Rock Band. One of at least two Rock Band titles shipping this year (crossing my fingers that Pearl Jam: Rock Band is still happening), including the just announced Rock Band 3, Green Day: Rock Band will slap authority in the face with forty-seven tracks spanning the band's career starting on June 8th.

The game will feature harmonies, which debuted in Beatles: Rock Band, and will also get a similar set of bonus features like photos and interviews, some of which have never been seen before. All of this is well and good for Green Day fans, though I'm not sure how good this is for Rock Band fans. Given recent events concerning Neversoft and Red Octane, it's easy to see that no franchise or genre is bulletproof, though I'd say the quality of Harmonix's work buys them a bit more leeway in the over-saturated market. That said, EA's plan to charge ten dollars more for a version of the game that comes with the ability to transfer the tracks kind of sucks. The only reason I would ever get this is to import the songs over to my gigantic Rock Band playlist because I hate the idea of being confined to one band all night. Ultimately, it's worth it, but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.

I'm curious to see how this game is going to sell. As far as a fanbase willing to buy this game, I'm not sure Green Day is the band Harmonix thinks it is. Of course, I could be completely wrong, and this game will sell well over a million copies. Since it's not getting a big bundle, which is smart, the chances of this game being a success are probably pretty good. I mean, it's at least got to do better than Guitar Hero: Van Halen, right?

Feast your eyes on the official press release below... if you dare.

Yeah, Pearl Jam Rock Band would be okay. But wouldn't Pink Floyd Rock Band be so much better?

If being bored by this makes me alone, then I want to be a minority.
