Ladies and gentlemen, your 2010 Madden cover athlete is Larry Fitzgerald. After having a fantastic season catching 96 passes for more than 1400 yards, and taking those receptions to the house 12 times, Fitz took his game to another level when the 2009 post-season began. Reeling in 30 passes for 650 yards and 7 TDs, the Cardinal wideout established himself as the premier player at his position. Seemingly uncoverable, the former Pitt standout dominated deep routes and burned any corner or safety that tried to keep pace with his senses shattering performance. Being anointed the Madden cover athlete is no small accomplishment, and Larry can now look forward to being remembered as one of the most celebrated players of his era thanks to this honor. There may be some stigma attached to the job, but of all the nominees from this year’s class, none is more capable of bearing the burden of a “curse” on his shoulders than this humble athlete.

But wait! In an unexpected move, EA has revealed that Larry will share the cover with Steelers safety Troy Polamalu. This is an unprecedented move for two reasons: first, there has never been a dual Madden cover before; and secondly, it's the first time that a cover athlete from NCAA Football made it to Madden.

The wait for Madden 10 began as soon as Madden 09 hit store shelves, and now that this year’s cover athletes have been announced it’s only a few short months until we’ll be hitting the gridiron in what looks to be the best Madden yet.

Oh, and I totally called it. Well, sort of.

UPDATE:

Here are some before and after pictures of the Times Square billboard with the snappily dressed Fitzgerald on scene.

And here's a close-up of the box art. I like it. Thoughts?
