Lego Batman Cartoon In The Works

Complaints About Blocky Animation to Follow

by 00.19

I have no idea how we didn't hear about this until now, but Batman fans and Lego game fans can begin rejoicing. It appears Traveller's Tales is helping an undisclosed studio make a cartoon based of the upcoming Lego Batman game. GamesIndustry.biz had a brief chat with producer Rich Earl at the Leipzig Game Convention, and this is what he had to say.

"We're looking to do... a Lego Batman series. I think they're looking at doing a one-off initially," he said. "... My understanding is that they will use the engine, the Maya files where the characters come to life, but they'll be creating animated... I think it's a 20-minute cartoon. I'm personally quite intrigued to see how it comes out. Lego, every time they've had a new brand out, they've done some CGI stuff as well, but I think this will be quite different."

I'm sure he didn't mean for it to sound like they're just making a machinima, but one wonders just what kind of message they'll be sending to children who will now think punching a mailbox will cause golden tokens to explode from it. I'm a sucker for anything Bat-related, so you can bet I'll be tracking down this pilot episode as soon as is humanly possible. We should have some more news from Traveller's Tales coming from PAX 08, so stay tuned.
