Lost PS3 Trophies May Be Recoverable

Your Hard Work Will Not Be Forgotten. Maybe.

After the PlayStation-ocalypse, many people were left in the lurch as far as their recently accquired Trophies were concerned. If you happened to try and play a game during the 30-hour blackout, any of the Trophies you earned in said game were deleted, seemingly forever. Today, we got word from Sony that all is not lost. According to a statement the company released, "... the user will need to re-access the game to reinstall the trophies, then exit the game and sync their trophy collection to the server in order to regain previous achievements."

Of course, not everything is as simple as it seems, and for some people this little solution didn't work entirely. I was unable to access Trophies I'd earned on our debug unit, but it looks like the issue extends beyond non-retail machines. According to forum posts on CVG, your lost Trophies will only appear when you try to compare your achievements with another friend. Though they will not appear on your system, which is likely causing many people to freak out, there are records of your Trophies somewhere on the PlayStation Network, meaning all of your accomplishments are still tracked. It's a shame this had to happen, and I'm hoping there's a better solution coming from Sony. There's a great percentage of upset people who covet Trophies like Xbox fanboys try to run up their Gamerscores, but even for those of us who merely use those statistics to track our own progress in a game, it's a bit disappointing to see no proof of what we've done.
