MLB 09: The Show Cover Athlete Revealed

Prepare to be Underwhelmed.

by 00.19

Which athlete makes the cover of a sports game doesn't really affect my buying decision, but when someone I respect makes the cover, I do enjoy the game a bit more for some reason. It's not really explainable, but it happens. Trust me. Anyhow, Sony announced the cover athlete for their baseball franchise, MLB 09: The Show. Are you ready?

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you… Dustin Pedroia. Ta-da.

While not exactly my first choice for person I’d like to see on the cover of a game I’m going to purchase, the man quietly (seriously, can anybody who’s not a Boston fan tell me anything about him?) put together an MVP season in 2008, and certainly earned the cover. Personally, I’d like to have seen World Series MVP Cole Hamels make an appearance, particularly since Tim Lincecum made the cover of 2K’s effort. There’s nothing like a great pitching battle, but we’ll just have to wait until we actually play the game for that to happen. I’m looking forward to this year’s The Show. Last year’s was the second greatest baseball game of all time, and even though I don’t think any game will ever knock MVP Baseball 2005 out of the top spot, I’m wagering MLB 09: The Show will come pretty close.

should have been Josh Hamiliton, he is such a beast.. I am not a Boston fan but i do know that Pedroia barely had a better year than Ian Kinsler and Kinsler played in like 40 less games, not much of an MVP to me.

But oh well, does not matter about the cover, just get ready for the best baseball game in 09

Goddamnit. This should have been Hamels or Brad Lidge. You know, a winner or a champion.

You know Dustin Pedroia plays for the Boston Red Sox right? Those same Sox who won the Series in 04 and 07. Just wondering how he's not a winner is all. (Not a member of the Nation... just pondering)
