The anniversary of the release of Pearl Jam's seminal album, Ten, is being celebrated by documentaries and re-releases, as well as a Rock Band DLC pack, has been one of the highlights of my year so far. I'm not going to bore you to death regaling you of my yesterdays and how influential Ten was, but it is my favorite album ever, and Pearl Jam is definitely one of my two favoritest bands still making music today (if you were wondering, the other is Clutch). Anyway, thanks to the slow news day, I was perusing their site debating whether or not I really needed the Super Deluxe Edition of Ten (complete with a cassette tape of Eddie Vedder's original demos for the band), when I came across this little tidbit. Pearl Jam is teaming with Harmonix to pick the set list for an upcoming Pearl Jam Live compilation.

The set list will be determined by the amount of plays a particular version of one of their songs gets on their embedded music player. Just as an example, there are eleven different recordings of "Alive" to chose from. There are over 40 different songs for fans to vote on, and while not every song has as many options as the aforementioned "Alive," the odds of someone getting the version of a song that they heard perfomed live at a show they attended are pretty good. I could put an entire disc together containing nothing but the available tracks from the two shows I saw them at last year in Camden, NJ.

  • "Alive"
  • "Black"
  • "Brain of J"
  • "Do the Evolution"
  • "Down"
  • "Footsteps"
  • "Insignificance"
  • "Lightyears"
  • "Love Boat Captain"
  • "Lukin"
  • "Why Go"

Now, that's probably not the whole set list that'll make it, and I highly doubt every member of the Ten Club is going to be voting for all those particular recorded versions, but it's just so cool that I can vote for the same song I saw them perform on a given night.

Whether or not this content is going to be made available via download or be a retail release akin to the AC/DC Live at Donnington content that just about nobody bought is unknown, but you can be certain I'll be keeping my eye on any future developments. Even if you're not exactly as big a Pearl Jam fan as I am, but you like Rock Band, you owe it to yourself to at least check this out.
