Penny Arcade Now Top Grossing XBLA Game

They Opened A Can of Worms And Stomped All Over It

by 00.19

VGChartz.com reported today Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness made $330,000 within the first three days of its availability for download on XBox Live Arcade, making it the top grossing download debut to grace the console. If recent advertisements are to be believed, this is good news for people who suck. Of course, this is also sad news for people who were hoping Worms HD would stay the top grossing download debut of all time.

How Worms HD was the top grossing game before that completely befuddles me. As far as units pushed, OTRSPoD is still behind Rez HD and Ikaruga, but only time will tell how long that'll last.

Hopefully XBox will continue to allow more episodic content now that there's proof people are willing to pay for it. Stay tuned to see if this week's release, Buku Sudoku, has what it takes to knock Penny Arcade off the chart.

Good for them! Still, it did cost 1600 points; the most you can pay for an XBLA game. Was it really worth that much? Yes, it was a great game, and I enjoyed every minute of it, but with four episodes, the grand total is going to be 6400 points, or $80 USD (more for us Canadians, since we pay more per point for no reason).

Is the end result really going to be worth $80+?
