Last night, Platinum Games revealed their next title, Vanquish, on GameTrailers TV. Aside from a new game from the developers of Bayonetta and MadWorld, what makes this announcement so exciting is the game comes from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. Needless to say, I can't wait for this game.

I'm not entirely sure which of the elements in this trailer are indicative of the game. There are live actors as well as CG, and it would certainly be different to play a game that cut back and forth between real people and virtual characters as quickly as the cuts in this trailer happen. While the game is likely to be a shooter of some sort, there's no sign of whether it will be first or third-person, but I'm leaning towards third-person considering the Resident Evil roots behind the game. And yeah, alien invasions of Earth aren't terribly exciting, and neither is playing as a character in some sort of battle armor, but you've got to have a little faith in both the developer and the man behind the game's concept. If anyone can put a new spin on tried gaming concepts, it's Platinum.

No clue as to when this game will show up, or on what consoles, but I'm guessing with so many gaming conventions coming in the next few months we're going to be hearing more about this title very soon. I just hope Vanquish is good. I'd like to see Platinum keep succeeding.
