Rumor: Yakuza 3 Not Coming Stateside

In Other News, Tonight I Will Cry Myself To Sleep.

According to reports, it appears that the latest entry in Sega's Yakuza series won't be making it to America for distribution. VG247 spoke with one of their contacts at Sega about whether or not the company had plans to bring the upcoming PS3 exclusive to western shores. His/Her response: “Not that I know of.” Thanks for softening the blow.

Seriously, could the person have been any more heartless? Is that person not aware of how many hearts just broke outside of Japan? Sure, the combined sales of the first two Yakuza games was somewhere in the low twenties, but that doesn't mean that PlayStation 3 owners won't be jumping at the chance to enjoy a rare console exclusive.

This news has me seriously considering importing the game when it hits Japanese shelves at the end of February. I've never done it before, but from everything I've seen from this game, and from how much I enjoyed the hell out of Yakuza 2, I can't imagine a life without Yakuza 3. As long as there's English subtitles. Otherwise the number one reason for getting the game (story) will be completely lost. Was anybody else looking forward to this as much as I was?

That is a shame, especially since PS3 owners could use an exclusive like this.

Saw that coming over the past few weeks. News was always either not there or asking a question of itself.

Not surprised. They took too damn long to port the original games (nearly 2 years for Yakuza 2, and to an almost dead platform). They did really well in Japan though (think I read the first one did like 2 million).

I picked up Yakuza 2 last month and heartily recommend it. It was a fun game with possibly some of the best writing & voice acting I've witnessed in a game.

If there's English subs I will definitely pick up Y3 (will have a PS3 by then, heh). And if they change their minds about porting, I really hope they don't do an English dub - the Japanese language just makes the game even more immersive, like you're watching a Japanese Yakuza film.

00.19, did you play the spin off, Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan? Came out earlier last year in Japan, set in the 1600s.

By the way, have you seen the Japanese Yakuza 3 site?
Site design is pretty cool. Graphics in the trailers look sweet, too.
