Rumor: Zune HD To Be Unveiled at E3?

Cautious Skepticism Outweighs My Excitement.

by 00.19

About nine bazillion websites are claiming Microsoft will soon be unleashing the next iteration of their Zune media player, the ubiquitously named Zune HD. Taking all of this with a grain of salt, HOLYCRAPOMYGODPLEASEBETRUE!

Ah-hem. Now that I've gained my composure back, why don't we talk about this like rational people. According to the plethora of sources I checked out on this rumor, the Zune HD will not only be implementing the NXE as its dashboard, but you'll also be able to play XBLA games on the go. In addition to the standard Zune features we proud few owners are so used to, the Zune HD will also be a Live Anywhere device. Which is pretty cool for the five or six of us who care.

Even if this turns out to be complete bullshit, which it very well may, the idea of being able to watch or play things I have on my home hard drive on the go is pretty exciting. Since everything is tied into my gamertag already, I guess it could be as simple as synching everything up, and walking out the door. There's absolutely no indication about what this thing will look like, so worrying about which XBLA games will work on it is senseless at this point. I can't really see them putting two analog sticks on it, but that doesn't mean they won't, so my hopes of playing Geometry Wars 2 while waiting in line at McDonald's are still alive.

Like the PS3 Slim rumor we heard about yesterday, there's no actual proof that any of this is true. But it'd be a damn shame if it wasn't. Oh, and just so I'm not accused of being partial to Microsoft rumors being true, and Sony rumors being crap... Fake-ity fake fake fakers fake.

That does actually sound pretty cool, and I hope it's fake so I'm not tempted to buy it.

A handheld device that will sync with my next-gen system? What a great idea! Oh, wait, no, Sony already failed to deliver on that promise with the PSP.

So essentially an Xbox handheld. Very sneaky, Microsoft. Could this be response to the iphone/ipod touch as a gaming device?

The regular Zune syncs with the Xbox 360 fairly well as is. There are some nice shots of the supposed HD here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/10/is-this-the-zune-hd/

SORTA confirmed. SORTA buying it day one.
