SMT: Strange Journey Gets Pre-Order Poster

If A Tree Falls In The Woods, Does Anybody Care?

by 00.19

If you weren't already looking forward to Atlus' latest Shin Megami Tensei game, Strange Journey, perhaps this next bit of news will get you fired up. Those of you who pre-order the game at Gamestop will not only get the game, and you'll not only receive a soundtrack CD, but now you'll also get a mini-poster. Yeah, boy! That's what I'm talking about. Actually, no it isn't. In fact, the "incentive" of a mini-poster probably has me less excited for the game.

Seriously, I don't care how free something is, if it's lame, it's lame. I'm sure I don't have to tell you how lame a mini-poster is. Atlus shouldn't have shot their load by giving away the soundtrack CD with the game at purchase. Now that, my friends, is what you call a bonus. Getting a soundtrack is way cooler than a poster, and it's also something that someone excited for the game is likely to be happy with and listen to. I haven't actually heard any of the music for this game yet, but if the excellent scores for the last few Mega Ten games are any indication, Strange Journey's going to have some pretty sweet musics.

The real shame if this whole sordid affair is that Atlus thinks they're doing us all a solid by giving away this poster. Maybe, and this is just me being hypothetical here, if the poster was full-size, and couldn't qualify as a postcard, I could see how Atlus might think this gift was worth giving. I might even be so inclined as to frame it and hang it on my wall were it a more reasonable size, say something like 8x10. Alas, it's not, and therefore, I'm just a bit disappointed in whoever thought this was a good idea.

Should you be so inclined, you can check out the full press release below.

Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today revealed a GameStop-exclusive mini-poster promotion for Shin Megami Tensei®: Strange Journey™, its upcoming first-person sci-fi RPG for Nintendo DS™.  The game, which already comes with a soundtrack CD packed in a collectible outer box (launch copies only), can now offer décor-concerned gamers who pre-order a copy of the game at GameStop with a nice mini-poster (available online and in stores while supplies last) with which to add class to their living area.

"Some of the best bonus items are the kind you can listen to, hence the soundtrack CD we're including with launch copies of the game," commented Aram Jabbari, Manager of Public Relations and Sales at Atlus.  "Still, sometimes you want a bonus item that you can feel, something you can caress gently and hold against your face, something you can take a big whiff of and enjoy.  That's what the mini-poster is all about.  With its gorgeous aesthetic, courtesy of master artist Kazuma Kaneko, Strange Journey stands out as a unique science fiction RPG experience, and this collectible mini-poster is the perfect way to show your friends that you are onboard for the adventure (and also, that you're better than them)."

You're awful bitter about something FREE. Don't hang up the poster then, damn. I can understand thinking it's not the best pre-order bonus ever, but I don't get how it makes you less excited about the game. That's silly.

Holy crap, this coming from a guy who gave Devil Summoner 2 a '9' because it has a stuffed doll in it, otherwise he would have given it a 7.5 .

just think of what i would have given the game if it was packaged with your mother instead.

Probably still a 7.5 , since you wouldn't know what to do with her and put her inside a mylar bag supported with a cardboard like you always do with shitty Captain America comics .

I thought people got over with comics when they were six.

man, i thought we were just joshing around, but you had to go and make it personal by making fun of the fact that I'm only five years old, and thus am like a baby, making noise, don't know what to do.

    but hey, at least i didn't give demon's souls a 6, am i right?

To be fair, if Demon's Souls had come with a stuffed doll, it probably would have gotten an 11 out of 10.

If you have time to form a tag team against me, why not form against a tag team to review Mass Effect 2 ? They are already out there , even Destructoid already released one.

    Don't be lazy faggots.

Oh, unless you didn't obtain any review copy, you can try exchanging one with, say, a passionate night with Sarah .I bet those PhD titles of the BioWare founders turn Sarah on.

    Halo is not even art.

Or any video game for that matter.

And, as usual, Still Remain brings up an unrelated argument. Excited to read my Mass Effect 2 review?

Kielbasa isn't art either, but if it was offered to me, I'd take it. Other things that aren't art, but are awesome; bungie jumping, screaming, the Bugatti Veyron, EPCOT Center, and art.

    No , just the score.

Coop, I think you got Mass Effect 2 confused with Demon's Souls.
