Sony Vows To Rid World Of Clamshell Packaging

Now If Only Everyone Else Would Jump On Board.

by 00.19

If you're like me, you hate having to open things. The world would be a far better place if there were no lids, caps, wrapping, or protective plastics keeping me away from the things I want. Clamshells packages, perhaps my greatest foe, are truly the Devil's work. Aside from reportedly (ok, I read it on Penny Arcade) winning an award for being so impossible to open, the clamshell serves no other purpose in life except to frustrate consumers who just want to hold the actual products in their hands. Thankfully Sony, along with several retailers, are also sick of how ridiculously impossible it is to open the clamshell. Over on their electronics blog, Sony had this to say:

I know consumers, including myself, get annoyed about how difficult they are to open. In fact, they typically can’t be opened without the use of a sharp device of some kind. Sony is working on the matter and I expect we will have a new alternative to announce soon.

They even made a clever video showcasing the frustrations of everyday people like you and me when trying to open a product sealed inside the clamshell.

If that's not a damning indictment of the plastic prison, I don't know what is. A solution to this problem can't come soon enough, and I welcome change with open arms. Besides, we all know that Sony sets the pace by which all other companies follow, so if they make the change, everyone else adopting the new ways can't be far behind.

Cause it's soooo hard to grab a pair of scissors. How about Sony stops fiddle fartin' around and comes up with some decent exclusive games that can help early adapters justify the 600 bones they dropped...
