Soul Calibur Ports to PSP

Sony's Year Is Starting To Shape Up.

by 00.19

There are a handful of PSP rumors floating about, but today one of them got confirmed. Namco will be bringing their fighting franchise Soul Calibur to the little portable that could this summer.

Details are sparse, to say the least, but there are a few tidbits of information gamers should find useful. The roster will be based off of Soul Calibur 4, and even though Yoda, the Apprentice, and Vader won't be appearing, that's not stopping Namco from adding some new blood to the mix. Among the 30 or so characters to make the roster will be the newcomer, Dampierre. The game will also have its difficulty tweaked for newcomers (read: dumbed down), but that might not necessarily be a bad thing. There is only one anaolog nub, and for a 3-D fighter, it's probably going to be pretty tough to translate those controls exactly. While WiFi multiplayer is still up in the air, at least there will be AdHoc for those who wish to play a friend.

I'm not usually one for fighting games, especially on handheld systems, but the Soul Calibur franchise has a special place in my heart. I'll definitely be seeking this out when Gamervision hits E3 later this summer, and I hope that the game plays as good as I'm imagining it does.
