Tecmo Bowl Throwback Runs Up the Score April 28

New Trailer Invokes That Loving Feeling.

by 00.19

I fancy myself a pretty good Tecmo Bowl player. Mayhaps you've seen the episode of Losing My Favorite Game where I lay a fierce whupping upon Mike Sadorf? I think it goes without saying that I'm a fairly big fan of the game. When word of an updated version, Tecmo Bowl Throwback, coming out first hit, I'll admit I was skeptical. No licenses. No real players. How good could it be? After watching the above trailer, I'm still not 100% sold on this new edition, but I'll admit, it does look an awful lot like the classic game I remember. I guess when April 28th hits, we'll all find out just how well this simplistic play of yesteryear holds up. Well, at least those of us with Xbox 360s anyway.

For a mere 800, you'll be able to enjoy the nostalgic feeling of your childhood with updated graphics, and even fewer actual professional players than ever before. Hopefully there'll be some sort of roster editor because I can't see myself rooting for Generic Jackson for more than a few quarters. Online functionality is a great addition, and a must at this point. You really can't have sports game that doesn't allow you to play friends online and expect to be successful in today's market. I just hope that enough of my friends pick this up to make it worthwhile.

Despite there being no date for the PlayStation Network as of yet, I'm sure it will be out soon. At least, I hope so. It doesn't really make any sense not to release it on Sony's console, and I find it hard to believe that Microsoft would pay for exclusive rights for a game like this.

ATTENTION INTERNET! I stomped Luke Brown's asshole in so soundly during our rematch, he won't even step up to finish our best of three series with a tie-breaking game.

I'll be as bad at this as I am at other football games that don't have Blitz in the title.

Without the NFLPA license, I'm not as excited. I may stick with Madden NFL Arcade.
