THQ Unveils UFC Game For 360/PS3

Acronyms Abound Adding Anticipation

Today, THQ made no quarrel officially announcing their rumored Ultimate Fighting Championship game, UFC 2009 Undisputed. It was nearly a year ago word first started to spread of the game when a trailer was unveiled at E3 2007. While there may have been some changes to the engine since then, I sure hope there weren’t too many. The graphics and gameplay showcased then make me salivate just as much now as they did when the video first dropped.

The fact there will be close to 80 fighters available, as well as create-a-fighter, is promising. One of the things the UFC games of the past lacked were robust rosters. Previous games also had a lackluster fighting engine basically turning each bout into button-mash fest. With all the advances we’ve seen in other fighting games, most notably the Fight Night series, here’s hoping THQ took some notes. I still long for an option to replay great fights in UFC history, but with the way contracts in MMA work that probably won’t be happening.

If you’re anticipating this game as much as I am, be sure to stay tuned to Gamervision for any and all UFC 2009 Undisputed news that breaks.

Hopefully they'll include fighters from WEC. I'd love to play as Urijah Faber. He's probably my favorite featherweight right now. As for Kimbo Slice, I wouldn't be surprised if publishers are trying to buy the rights for an Elite XC videogame since they debuted on CBS, which is a big step for MMA. They're also partnered with DREAM who have lots of former Pride fighters.

Hopefully the create-a-fighter mode will allow us to make a decent Kimbo....who for the record, is not very good. Entertaining as hell though.
