Instead of trolling the dollar bins at my shop this week, I bring you something a little more substantial this day of Saint Valentine. THROW IT BACK! THURSDAY invites you to the wedding of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Jean Grey. As always, click on the picture to see it biggie-sized.

An event more than 30 years in the making, X-MEN #30 brings pretty much everyone in the X-universe together to celebrate the marriage of one of MARVEL’s greatest couples. Brought to you by Fabian Nicieza and Andy Kubert, “The Ties That Bind” was a big moment in the X-universe . Not quite on the scale of “Death of Superman,” but there was a little media buzz about this particular issue. Nicole Miller even designed Jean’s dress for the occasion. MARVEL even put out a wedding album.
Sadly, the issue was more of a formality this point in X-history. Scott and Jean were a very established couple, and the marriage was more an event for the fans than a service to the characters. Especially considering their relationship now. Though, that’s not to say there aren’t some good moments to be shared.
Jean first waking down the aisle is quite a moment indeed. Made more so by the fact that we can see what Cyclops is thinking.
The reception leads to this scene where Gambit is “fighting” for the garter.
The final dance of the night is quite special as well.
This issue holds a special spot in my heart as I love the X-Men, and Scott Summers is one of my all-time favorite characters. When I was a kid, this issue was a big deal to me. I missed out on the marriage of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman, as well as Spidey and MJ’s wedding. This was really the first time I’d been “witness” to something like this in a comic. The issue means so much to me, if you notice in the picture at the top I actually had Andy Kubert autograph the issue for me so I could frame it. Don’t ask why. Even I’m not sure. Hopefully, someday you’ll have a comic that does that for you.
FINAL VERDICT: Take it Home.
Anyhow… Guns. Violence. Football. Got to get the taste of emotion out of my mouth.
See you next week.

forge and gambit are my favorites.
i lol'd hardcore at the garter
wait, you have emotions? damn, who knew.
this is one of the few comics I remember from my childhood. clearly written for the fans, but still a good read.
Even better was the follow up mini series The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix with stunning Gene Ha artwork. If X Men 30 was the 'formality' the AoCaP mini was all about building on their strong foundation as more than just a couple. Do yourself a favor and find the issues or the trade paperback, they're both cheap...but not as cheap as your mom.
You also got to witness the wedding of BP & Storm...which no one cared about.
That's not true, Marvel marketing cared a lot about Storms wedding.
