For comics shipping 06.04.08 or The Week Larry King Believed In Aliens (Is this still CNN?). Every week I’ll check Diamond’s shipping list to see what you absolutely, positively, no doubt about it need to spend all your hard earned cash on at the Local Comic Shop.

DARK HORSE COMICS

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #15

Drew Goddard’s “Wolves at the Gate” story comes to a close this issue. I don’t want to make it seem like this arc wasn’t good (it was, and artist George Jeanty’s work was excellent), but I’ve just been waiting for it to end ever since the solicitations for issue sixteen came out where we learned Melaka Fray would return. I loved Karl Moline’s work on FRAY and I’m super-excited he’s going to be working in this universe again. Anyway, you don’t want to miss this final issue of Goddard’s arc as it leads directly into Joss’ Fray-centric one. Unravel the mystery of the scythe for just $2.99.

DC COMICS

Detective Comics #845

Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen begin their next arc here. This book has been phenomenal since Dini came on board, and I think I tell you guys that just about every month. Nguyen’s art has been some of his best, and he shows no signs of letting up. Take this opportunity to jump on for just $2.99. Any fan of the animated series who hasn’t been reading this needs to get on board.

Trinity #1

Mark Bagley and Kurt Busiek bring DC’s newest weekly comic to the shops this week. Don’t worry about not being in the know with current events as TRINITY will be mostly self-contained. Each book will also feature a second ongoing story written by personal favorite of mine, Fabian Nicieza. Having something by this creative team coming out every week is well worth your $2.99. If you haven’t seen Bagley’s art before, now is your perfect chance to witness one of the top artists every week. Don’t miss this.

MARVEL COMICS

Cable #4

I know some of you think this book is moving too slow. It’s called pacing, so suck it up. Things are actually starting to pick up, and you’re going to regret not being there when what Duane and Ariel have planned unfolds. Get involved with some sci-fi western action for just $2.99.

Criminal #3

Ed Brubaker. Sean Phillips. Noir. $3.50. Another stand-alone means no excuses. Get it.

Invincible Iron Man #2

Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca make it look so easy. The art is just gorgeous. Describing it with words is unjust as it must be seen to be appreciated. Fraction crafts a script that pulls you in and delivers all the action and science one would expect from ol’ Shellhead. If you didn’t take my advice on picking up issue one, don’t make the same mistake again this month. That $2.99 is just begging to spent on this issue.

Secret Invasion #3

MARVEL’s summer event keeps rolling along. I don’t really know how much more I have to do to sell you on picking this up. Every week there’s at least one tie-in that keeps you interested until the next big issue. The art and story have been real good thus far, and issue three doesn’t look like it will disappoint. Anyone who tells you not to spend $3.99 on this book must be a Skrull. Or cheap.

TOP COW

Witchblade #118

I was never a true fan of the book in the past. A little too “T & A” for my tastes. Then they go and hire Ron Marz to run the book a little while back, and every preconceived notion about the book is thrown to the wind. Do yourself a favor and look past the scantily clad heroine. Sure it’s easy on the eyes, but there’s heart here too. Take a chance this week for just $2.99. They’ve got some big things brewing at TOP COW, and we’re pretty sure you don’t want to miss out.

No trade this week. Nothing really jumped out at me.

See you next week.

Good week for me too- new Dark Tower, and the Dark Tower Almanac. Of course 00.19 didn't mention them, but I won't let that ruin my fun!

That Secret Invasion cover is just plain killer. Also can't wait to see what Bagley does with the "Big Three"

Well since the Dark Tower Almanac doesn't come out until July, I didn't think to tell people to try and pick it up tomorrow.
