DARK HORSE COMICS

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #20

Finally, fans of BTVS get a glimpse into the produced-but-never-developed animated series. I know the name Jeph Loeb inspires a lot of venom in many comic shops, but if Joss Whedon thinks the man can handle characters in this universe, then the guy deserves a shot. Hell, Loeb’s written some of my favorite comic stories ever (as well as some of my least favorite), so don’t think twice when looking to pick this $2.99 comic up. Anyhow, this stand-alone issue is a great spot for those of you who haven’t been reading this comic, for whatever reason, to start.

MARVEL COMICS

Invincible Iron Man #8

The Secret Invasion may be over, but the ramifications are only just beginning. After being lambasted and blamed for the reason the country fell into disarray so quickly by Norman Osborn, Tony Stark has become target number one for the newly formed H.A.M.M.E.R., the government’s replacement for S.H.I.E.L.D. Yes, it’s a lot of acronyms, but this $2.99 issue is going to be chock full of solid pencils from Salvador Larocca. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s written by Matt Fraction, who is slowly becoming the best writer in mainstream comics. Yeah, I said it.

Spider-Man: Noir #1

Look at that cover. Look at it. Okay, now go out and buy this $2.99 comic about what would happen if Peter Parker was inspired to don the costume during the 50s. Come on, it has noir in the title, how can you not want to buy this? X-Men: Noir was pretty fun, so I expect this to follow suit.

Wow, extra light week this week. Tell you what, check back this Friday for The Quarterbin’s first ever “Comic Related Gifts to Buy for the People You Know That Don’t Read Comics But Could Use a Little Comic Flavor in Their Lives.” We’re still working on the title.

Whoa, slow week. Looking forward to Buffy though. I need to read X-Men Noir, I am so behind. Spider-man Noir looks pretty neat too.

I'm pretty cold on Loeb lately, but considering he was the guiding hand (second only to Whedon) on the animated series during its development, I guess he's the right one to write the issue. And I'm curious as to what might have been, so...
