For comics shipping 01.14.09 or The Week It Was Out With The Old, In With The New. Every week I’ll check Diamond’s shipping list to see what you absolutely, positively, no doubt about it need to spend all your hard earned cash on at the Local Comic Shop.

DC COMICS

Final Crisis #6

It’s almost over, and I’m really excited for these last two issues. Grant Morrison, JG Jones, and the rest of the team may be coming under a lot of fire for not delivering, but whose fault is that: ours for our ridiculous expectations, or theirs for falling short of them? Lateness aside, I’ve enjoyed the story (for the most part), and despite JG not being the artist who finishes the book, I’m holding off all judgment until the whole product is in front of me. You want to see what happens in this $3.99 book just as much as I do.

DMZ #38

How is it possible you’re not reading this book yet? Anyhow, Delgado has Matty searching down the source of the DMZ’s greatest urban legend so that he can get his hands on it. I’m not one for spoiling things, but needless to say, if the man in charge of NY got his hands on this item, it could change the way the war is fought. You’re going to want to be there for every last minute of this arc. Be sure to add this $2.99 book to your buy pile… and your subscription list.

Green Lantern Corps #32

The final chapter of “Sins of the Star Sapphire” arrives this week, and things aren’t going to be the same for the Corps after this. Mongul continues his quest to take over the reigns of the Sinestro Corps, and you can almost hear the sound of the “Blackest Night” just around the corner. For $2.99 you can be an early adopter of what I’m penciling in as the Best Story Arc of 2009. Don’t miss out.

MARVEL COMICS

Amazing Spider-Man #583

Everyone else is making a big deal about this, so I guess I will too. President-Elect Obama appears in a back-up short with the wall-crawler. That’s right, not the main 22-pages (which focus on Peter out on a date), but a brief few pages. Good luck finding this cover though. It’s the variant, and most stores will not be able to carry it. I think it’s a bit much, and the issue carries a $3.99 price tag, so yeah… Obama and Spidey… hooray?

Wonderful Wizard of Oz #2

$3.99 for a Skottie Young-drawn Wizard of Oz? There should be no doubt in your mind at all about whether or not to pick this up. Just in case there is, you should be getting this book. It’s pretty good.

No trade this week. See you next time.

If I find the Obama cover, I'll pick up Spidey. Otherwise, bleh. I haven't bought an issue post-OMD, and I intend to continue that trend until the stories stop feeling like the Roger Stern era revisited.

Final Crisis #6, though; it's on.

Damn, I am several weeks behind on my comics reading, and seeing the new Wizard of Oz is reminding me that I need to catch up before I can read anything new. Want it!

Final Crisis, Wizard of Oz, and Spidey. Good week. Better than game releases.

I'm guessing that there's nothing Punisher related this week. I know this because you whored out to an inauguration cash-grab instead of reporting the news.
