BOOM! STUDIOS

Unknown #1

I’ve made my thoughts on this book pretty clear in my advanced review, so all I’m going to say is pick up this $3.99 book. You won’t be disappointed.

DARK HORSE COMICS

Umbrella Academy: Dallas #6

The conclusion to Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba’s follow-up to one of the best mini-series of 2007 arrives this week, and I know I’m looking forward to it. Listen, the story thus far has led us to Number 5 travelling back in time to stop himself from assassinating JFK. $2.99 seems like a bargain.

DC COMICS

Green Lantern Corps #36

Two words: Jail. Break. It’s going to get nasty. Don’t miss out on another chapter in the build up to “Blackest Night.” Besides, it’s Green Lantern, and you know your $2.99 is going to get you your moneys worth.

Secret Six #9

It’s a “Battle for the Cowl” tie-in as two of members of the Six think they should be the one to step up and wear the cape and cowl. Of course, they might just have to deal with Ragdoll as their sidekick, so is it really worth it? Gail Simone and Nicola Scott continue to knock it out of the park every month on this book, and you’d have to look pretty hard to find a better book, dollar for dollar. Be sure to add this $2.99 book to your stack tomorrow.

MARVEL COMICS

Punisher: Frank Castle #70

The conclusion to “Six Hours to Kill” courtesy of Duane Swierczynski and Michael Lacombe. $3.99. That is all.

Secret Warriors #4

Damn is this book good. Hickman and Caselli are doing some really great work on this title, and it’d be a shame if you were missing out on one of the top five books Marvel puts out every month. For $2.99 you get Nick Fury leading a team of second generation heroes against impossible odds. Espionage, intrigue, and stellar characterization. You’re so buying this.

Wonderful Wizard of Oz #6

22 pages of Skottie Young art for $3.99. Do you need to know more? It’s the Wizard of freaking Oz, man.

Trade Paperback/Hardcover of the Week

I Kill Giants

Meet Barbara Thorson. She’s a fifth grader with a Norse warhammer who kills giants. Yeah, and this book is written by Joe Kelly, so you know she’s going to have quite the quick wit. I missed out on this series when it was coming out monthly, but thanks to the rave reviews, I’m going to rectify that this week when this $15.99 trade hits shelves.

That’s it for this week. See you next time.

I'm all over Green Lantern and Secret Warriors. Might pick up the Unknown, too, as I've been happy with the BOOM! Studio stuff so far.

@sarah: my thoughts exactly! i've been loving the oz series and am a recent convert to all things umbrella academy - seriously, i'm getting obsessed, it's kind of scary.
