Incredibles #3 - $2.99

What’s not to love about the Incredible family? Mark Waid and Marcio Takara have done an excellent job on this series so far, and with just a few issues left to go until the conclusion of this first storyline, in which Mr. Incredible is strangely losing his powers, you can bet the good times are far from over. Don’t miss out on this continuation of one of the best Disney franchises of the past twenty years.

DC COMICS

Detective Comics #854 - $3.99

A new era of Detective Comics starts here. Join Greg Rucka and JH Williams as they usher Batwoman into the fold as she takes over DC’s longest running book. As if the promise of a Rucka/Williams team-up wasn’t enough motivation to buy this book, you also get to be there for the beginning of the new Question second feature from Greg Rucka and Cully Hamner. Mark my words, this series is going to be a contender for book of the year. You’re not going to miss out on the book of the year are you?

Gotham City Sirens - $2.99

Paul Dini written books are always a treat, and now he teams with former erotic comic artist, and current DC fan-favorite, Guillem March for a series following three of comicdom’s most sultry single ladies. On their own, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn are all excellent characters, but together, you get an irresistable package no comic fan should go without.

Green Lantern#42 - $2.99

It’s the final chapter of “Agent Orange” and the book that leads into the start of “Blackest Night,” the storyline sure to rock the DCU to the core. Geoff Johns and Phillip Tan bring you all the action and excitement you could possibly crave. Besides, I know you guys would never miss an issue of Green Lantern, right?

Northlanders #18 - $2.99

An all-new storyline entitled “Shield Maidens” starts this month. Brian Wood and Daniel Zezelj tell the tale of the real Norse women behind the mythology of the Valkyrie. No single issue of this book has let me down yet, and there’s no sign of Brian Wood’s impecable storytelling failing to deliver any time soon. If you haven’t been reading this book, now is the time to start.

Wonder Woman #33 - $2.99

Gail Simone and Aaron Lopresti bring the “Rise of the Olympian” to a stunning conclusion. This is one book no Wonder Woman fan should miss. If you haven’t been following the adventures of Diana, this final chapter promises to set the stage for the forseeable future.

MARVEL COMICS

Daredevil #119 - $2.99

Kingpin versus Lady Bullseye by Brubaker and Lark. Need I say more?

Dark Avengers #6 - $3.99

Brian Bendis and Mike Deodato have been on an absolute roll with this book ever since it started. Things are just now heating up, and you won’t want to miss this lead-in issue to the crossover with Uncanny X-Men. This book is what good comics are made of.

Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Utopia - $3.99

Marc Silvestri joins Matt Fraction for the crossover event of the summer. I have no idea what’s going to happen during the “Utopia” storyline, but with the Dark X-Men lurking in the corner, trouble for Marvel’s merry mutants can’t be far behind. Have you ever been disappointed by a book Matt Fraction’s written yet? I didn’t think so.

Guardians of the Galaxy #15 - $2.99

Shi’ar. Inhumans. Guardians. Sounds like we’re in for one heck of a fight. If you’ve been enjoying War of Kings as much as I have, you better not miss this tie-in.

Immortal Iron Fist #27 - $3.99

The regular series appears to be coming to a close, and even though Marvel supposedly has big plans for Danny Rand in the future, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about one of my favorite books of all time coming to an end. I trust Duane and Travel to deliver a fond farewell, and hope that this is only the beginning of something great.

Secret Warriors #5 - $2.99

Damn this book is good. This is one of the heaviest shipping weeks I’ve seen in months, but you still have to find room for Jonathan Hickman and Stefano Caselli’s book. It’s just so damned good. Seriously, if you’re looking for some solid superhero spy adventure, you found it.

Thunderbolts #133 - $2.99

Andy Diggle and Roberto De La Torre bring you the Thunderbolts versus Songbird. Oh yeah, this is going to be good.

Wolverine: Weapon X #3 - $3.99

Jason Aaron and Ron Garney are putting out the best Wolverine book on the stands. Period. If you’re not reading this, you don’t deserve to call yourself a comic fan.

Trade Paperback/Hardcover of the Week

Empowered Vol. 5 - $14.99

Yes, I know I recommended this last week when it was supposed to ship, and picking it again may seem like a cop out, but Adam Warren’s saga of the superheroine Empowered is the best book on the stands that you’re not reading. Don’t try to act all cool, and play it off. While it may look like your standard cheesecake for boys, the actual book is anything but. Sure, Adam draws a pretty lady, and there are plenty of sexually suggestive scenes… ok, there’s occasionally some down and dirty sex… but it’s all part of a fantastic commentary on the medium as a whole, and you’d be a fool for judging this book by its cover. Even though it’s the fifth volume, each of the books stands on its own, so don’t be afraid to give Empowered a chance.
