Hellboy: Double Feature of Evil – $3.50

Two Hellboy stories written by Mike Mignola and drawn by Richard Corben. This is about as close to a no-brainer as you can get.

DC COMICS

Batman Incorporated #1 – $3.99

The latest chapter in Grant Morrison’s epic reinvention of Batman arrives this week, and I couldn’t be happier. I think what Grant’s doing with Batman is one of the boldest strokes DC has taken in recent years, and though Batman has always been a massively popular character, I think this new direction is going to open up the comic not only to new audiences, but to new possibilities as well. So yeah, pick this up.

The Flash #6 – $2.99

It’s the final chapter of the book’s opening arc. You know, the one that started back in April. The book is only a few months behind schedule, but I’m still disappointed in the creative team. Mostly, that’s because the book is so good that I greedily want it to actually ship on time every month. Unfortunately, that has been a rare occurrence, and I hope that moving forward, The Flash comes out on time.

Northlanders #34 – $2.99

“Metal” concludes, and judging by this cover, things aren’t going to end well. At least, not for the two people we’ve been following during this storyline. More Viking goodness is always a good thing though, especially when it’s courtesy of Brian Wood and Ricardo Burchelli.

Artifacts #3 – $3.99

Another chapter of Top Cow’s biggest event to date arrives this week, and not a moment too soon. I’m dying to see what happens next in this crossover, and I look forward to what Ron Marz and Michael Broussard have in store for us. This book has been a great way to familiarize yourself with the Top Cow U, and it’s not too late to jump on board.

MARVEL COMICS

X-23 #3 – $2.99

You know what I like most about this book? That it gives me a new perspective on a character that I previously only thought was a cheap knock-off, but is actually laden with potential. Laura could be one of the most interesting young females in comics if the right creators are working on her book, and I think Marjorie Liu is more than up to the task. I am warming to Will Conrad’s art, and I appreciate that he draws X-23 like a teenager, but I’m still 100% sold on him. The book as a whole is really good so far though, and I look forward to reading more.

ONI PRESS

Sixth Gun #6 – $3.99

I believe it now goes without saying that when Cullen Bunn’s and Brian Hurtt’s supernatural Western arrives on shelves, you’re going to buy it. It’s the most unique and refreshing comic I’ve read in ages, and as a fan of both Westerns and horror stories (as well as Bunn and Hurtt), Sixth Gun is a genre-bending work of genius that must be read.
