Splicers, Big Daddies, and turrets...OH MY!!!! Somethings rotten in the mysterious underwater city of Rapture, a would be utopia for scientists and artists going far beyond the moral boundaries of the rest of civilization. Its been taken over by crazed, genetically modified freaks that used to be its population. Oh yeah, and there are these creepy little girls with syringes mutilating the corpses lying scattered through the buildings and tunnels, always under the watchful eye of her near by Big Daddy escort. So now, of course, its up to you to set things right. Grab a wrench and a good plasmid and let's go!
He sees me!!
Bioshock is one of those games that has kept its promises on every level. "You'll want to play the game more than once through," they said. "No two play-throughs or gamers will play the same," they promised. And after two times playing all the way through and being half-way to the end again...I couldn't agree with them more. The first time I played through I used anything in my arsenal to kill whatever was coming at me. The second time that I played through, I really used the environment a lot more to dispose of those who would do me harm. Such as setting an oil slick on fire as enemies run toward me so that before the get to me they have to deal with the fact that they are engulfed with flames. Or setting a dead body of fire and using telekinesis to launch the body at angry splicers, in turn setting them on fire for sure, and often times killing them instantly. And there are still many more ways to play and bring pain to your enemies. You have a small arsenal of weapons (1 melee, 6 projectile, and your research camera) as well to aide in your escape from Rapture, and each of those projectile weapons have 2 upgrades at the 12 various "Power to the People" stations located throughout the game. The upgrades you get can vary from damage increase, damage immunity from your own grenades, or even chemical consumption rate for the chemical thrower. And these
do make a huge difference to the weapon that you upgrade.
Excuse me? Can you help me find the bathroom?"
Never mind, I'll find it myself.
I can't forget to talk about the turrets and security cams. These play a huge role in the game and they are all over Rapture keeping an eye peeled out for you, but it doesn't have to stay that way. A quick shot from your electro bolt and the turret or cam goes down for a couple of seconds (give or take depending on the level plasmid that you are using and the level of the turret or cam) and a hack option appears for the X button. Going for the hack (you can also hack vending and u-invent machines to reduce costs and supplies) brings up the hack mini-game, which is a race against the clock to redirect fluid from one side of the puzzle square to another. The hack mini-game can get difficult and very frustrating especially with alarm and short circuit tiles ( alarm tiles alert the hover-turrets to come hunt you down and the short circuit tiles damages your health), but have no fear there is relief for your hacking grief, some vending machines sell auto-hack tools and you can find components to build them at u-invent stations where available.
This reminds me of macaroni art from kindergarden.
With the game-play being top-notch and the graphics absolutely next-gen, that leaves the story and what it brings to the Bioshock experience. Which is a lot, the story line is very well written and there was a great deal of time writing background stories and leaving little bits of info that fill in and complete the full story. As you progress in the game you become better acquainted with Andrew Ryan, creator of Rapture, and Atlas, an opposer to Ryan and how things have turned out at the bottom of the sea, both of whom obviously have their own interests and designs for you. The dialogue and environment does an amazing job of bringing you in and not letting go even after you've beaten the game twice. Even still, I know that I will play at least one more time after this third play through to make sure I have gotten all of the achievements and to play through using only electro bolt, telekinesis, and the wrench. This is definitely a buy so that you can play the crap out of it and use it for trade in later.
Crazy splicers.

that was a really cool article. now I just gotta buy an xbox 360 for it and NOT for halo:)
I just beat it last night, and am going to start it again today. It was an excellent game, and the visuals and story were top notch. Most surely worth my hard earned $59.99.
