Activision Believes COD4 Pwns Army of Two, RSV:2

Says the Titles Are “Failing to Inspire”

In a magazine interview recently conducted, Activision marketing director David Tyler had some interesting things to say about Rainbow Six Vegas: 2 and Army of Two.

"We're pleased to have Call of Duty 4 leading the way in the FPS genre, with recent launches such as Army of Two and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 failing to inspire. Call of Duty 4 has been a phenomenal success for us and reflects Activision's commitment to creating truly ground-breaking games."

Other than finding fault in him calling Army of Two a FPS, he is mostly right. Comparatively, Call of Duty 4 is a few light-years ahead of both titles in terms of gameplay, innovation, graphics, and just about any other positive I can think of. However, if rumors of Infinity Ward taking a step back from the franchise and letting another developer handle COD5 in the meantime, Tyler should be prepared to eat his words if the title fails as badly as Call of Duty 3 did.

I do believe that both Army of Two and RSV:2 brought plenty to the genre. Army of Two's aggro system, while tacked on to a mediocre game, is something that should and likely will be brought to more titles in the future. Vegas 2 also expanded the leveling system to single player – something that Activision is likely to do in the next Call of Duty due to its critical success. Both games also sold really well, so that is a plus for their case.

So what do you think? Is Call of Duty 4 still king of the hill, or has Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 or Army of Two made their way to the top?

It's hard for any game to compare to what many considered to be the top game of 2007. Notice that Mr. Tyler says nothing at all about Bioshock nor Portal.

True. He separates himself from those as far as possible.
