Activision has announced that it will not be attending E3 this year, deciding that it will not participate in any official E3 activities. This is surprising news, as Activision has regularly supported the Electronics Entertainment Expo. Their word choice, stating that they will not participate in “official” activities, most likely means they support will be off-site, which isn’t that uncommon as the show has shrunk down significantly over the past few years. Companies like Gamecock have completely shunned the event, and only participate on their own terms.

Wait, that means that I can't meet Bobby Kotick when I go to E3. Nooooo!

What could this mean? One guess could be that they are simply reducing their spending on large-scale events in favor of more intimate ones. Another guess, which is more outrageous but completely possible, is that Activision and Vivendi are planning to make their own event that will be announced in the coming months. Blizzard already hosts Blizzcon, and now that their wagon is hitched to a much larger company I wouldn’t think it too crazy to see their exhibit expanded significantly. We will be contacting Activision for more information, and stat tuned to Gamervision for all of the E3 coverage you can handle when the event finally hits.
