Better take our your Stupid to English translators, folks, because shit just got dumb. Variety is reporting that Brütal Legend's drama is far from over, and Activision is threatening a lawsuit to prove it. Despite dropping the game several months ago, forcing it to find cover beneath Electronic Arts, they've now revealed that they believe to still have publishing rights. That's correct, apparently deciding to not publish a game isn't enough to prove that you're not going to publish it. If that makes sense to you, there's a chance you might want to ask Chief Bromden to smother you with a pillow.

Variety sources say that Activision has penned a letter to EA and Double Fine expressing this concern, explaining that the game was still theirs when EA stepped in. I took a few law classes in the past, and I'm pretty sure they are evoking the "I got this" ruling of 1934. Odds are when they say they still have rights to publish the game they mean they want money, but, this entire situation feels like Activision standing drunkenly outside of Double Fine's apartment yelling "HEY STELLA!"

Adding another layer onto the drama is EA's PR, who came out with this statment:

"We doubt that Activision would try to sue. That would be like a husband abandoning his family and then suing after his wife meets a better looking guy."

Oh. Snap. I just hope this all ends horribly and tragically, because there have been just too many happy endings surrounding Brütal Legend, and it's time to back Schafer into a corner. I hear that's when he really lets it all out.
