Age of Conan Still 360 Bound

Ten People Just Flipped Out

by Coop

As time goes on, it really seems like every MMORPG developer wants to make a persistant world come to consoles, yet none actually have the sticktoitiveness to do it. Microsoft is simply too strict when it comes to the constant updates that MMOs need to have, and the online userbase for the PlayStation 3 hasn't yet proven itself large enough to justify bringing an MMO to the system. Or something. That hasn't stopped nearly every single developer from saying that it plans on porting their game to consoles, though it often feels as though the promises are completely and utterly empty. Apparently breaking away from that stereotype, Funcom means business when they say that Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is coming to the 360, and Game Director Craig Morrison promises that it's still being worked on, well over a year after the game's PC debut.

Speaking to CVG, Morrison said:

"We obviously had many more challenges than we envisioned getting our technology to adapt to the console platform. We are still working on it for the future, and we see it as a potentially valuable platform for our games. Whether we have missed a window for Age of Conan itself remains to be seen."

The window may have been missed, but that might not be a terrible thing. Nearly every MMORPG is essentially broken at launch, something that gamers have come to expect and accept from the early months spent in the genre. It's at these times that the game might be the most fun, but it's also the least user-friendly, something console gamers haven't had to deal with. Reports from those still splitting skulls in the Hyborian Age speak of a game that has grown tremendously since its fractured launch, something the upcoming expansion, Rise of the Godslayer, hopes to prove.

We'll keep you posted, though breath holding is not, in any way, recommended. Why? Well, this is a good reason.

Hasn't this game been shunned by all the media outlets in the world? Who would actually be looking forward to it? Really... who?

I must admit, I have a slight tinge of a desire to try it.
