Amazon Slashes PSPgo Price by $5

Only $75 to Go!

by Coop

Sony's PSPgo hasn't launched to the accolades many expected. The overpriced handheld has received mostly negative reviews, with most agreeing that the largest issue, besides a lack of a point, is the price. At $250, the go is just $50 less than the PS3, and a full $80 more than the DSi, all for a system that can't play games that have already been purchased for the PSP. In what might be a response to possible lackluster sales, Amazon has taken the initiative and cut $5 off the go's price, marking it down to $244.99.

The sale is unlikely to sway anyone who was already upset about the price in the first place, but it sends a nice message to Sony about what the mega-retailer thinks of its handheld. Amazon is usually the first to drop game prices, often selling new titles for $54.99 instead of $60, but it's infrequent to see consoles get a slice this early. In fact, I can't remember when they dropped any system's price this soon after a launch, even if it's only $5.

Odds are it's just Amazon taking advantage of their massive size by cutting prices wherever possible, but it could be something more. We've reached Sony to see if they have any idea why Amazon decided to drop the price, so check back for more information.

    Yeah, still ridiculously expensive...

Kinda strange that Amazon is discounting hardware. I'll wait for a legit price drop...

I don't think Amazon proactively did this. Amazon tends to drop prices if Marketplace sellers drop the price. In this case, other sellers are listing at $237 so Amazon has it as $245. Look at the Xbox Wireless adapter. There is a relationship with the Marketplace prices there.

Still good that Marketplace sellers are dropping the price though.

Drop it $95 more and I'm there.
