American Heavy Rain Box Art Revealed
Jury is Still Out
by Coop

America isn't getting the special edition of Heavy Rain, which is sad. We're still getting the game, and it's coming out pretty soon, but, again, we apparently don't deserve to spend more money in the states. That means the box art on the UK edition is unique, and we're not going to get lenticular squat. Instead, we have the box art (below, and so far opinions seem split down the middle as to whether or not it's good, or the worst thing to ever thing.
I, personally, love it, and here's why:

Heavy Rain isn't your average game. In fact, it's pretty freaking un-ordinary. While we (you, me, and anyone else who reads gaming news) know plenty about it, most gamers have no idea what Heavy Rain is. It's not going to get the push of Call of Duty or the advertising money of Left 4 Dead 2. Instead, it has one chance to grab attention: the box art, and an origami crane isn't going to sell games. The origami is a part of the game, so it should be there (and is), but it doesn't need to be the only thing on the box. Instead, they're giving us a look at the characters we can expect to interact with, including a beautiful woman, a shady guy with a gun, a generic looking guy, and a man in a suit. It's a motley crew, and should help pull people in who haven't heard of Quantic Dream, and aren't excited enough to complain that the US isn't getting the special edition. In other words, it's not for you, and you're not going to be looking at it much, so get over it.
Either way, the box art is nice, fairly tasteful, and does a good job of conveying that the game isn't your standard shooter (see: no explosions), without completely isolating most gamers. If you're angry, print out your own logo and let the game sell.

whatever. the game's the same. still can't wait.
I think it's fine, but I'm not British or Australian, so what do I know?
It's okay. I prefer the UK box art, though. Still mad stoked for it, regardless.
