Reports are flowing in that Animal Crossing will soon be announced to be an MMO. The rumors, sparked by Edge Magazine, are quoted below:

 "Edge magazine is reporting that Nintendo's Wii iteration of its hugely popular Animal Crossing franchise is taking a massively multiplayer online direction." SOURCE

The possibilities for this are incredible. With Wii Connect 24 it would give Nintendo the oppertunity to really create something amazing. Being able to visit friends towns over the internet at any time weather or not they are currently playing would be an interesting addition.

A good example of how addicting this game would be can be found by looking at the last ones. The Gamecube Animal Crossing had hours and hours of entertainment that only ended when there was nothing left to do. The DS Animal Crossing doubled that time by allowing players to connect to each other wirelessly and using Nintendo WiFi connection. However, waiting for friends could be a hassle.

Now that Nintendo has added keyboard support and has the Wii online even when the player isn't, visiting any friends town at any time would make this move from a game to just a daily activity along with brushing teeth and reading Gamervision.
