Assassin’s Creed: Fastest Selling IP Since 2002

Altaïr Assassinates All Who Oppose

There have been very mixed reviews on Assassin’s Creed. Some deem it an unplayable mess and some consider it one of the best games of the year. Regardless of what reviewers believe, the fans are buying it.

“Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed has shot to the top of the UK all-formats charts and become the second fastest-selling new IP on an individual format behind 2002's The Getaway.

The Xbox 360 version of the game claims 67 per cent of sales, with the PlayStation 3 version taking the remaining 33 per cent. It also becomes the third fastest-selling Xbox 360 game within a weekly sales period.” SOURCE
The more surprising thing about this is that The Getaway sold as well as it did. That game didn’t have staying power at all. Seriously, who still talks about The Getaway? Even though most big sellers are sequels there were some original IPs to come out in-between that I would think would have sold better then that, namely Gears of War.

This is good news for the game that aspires to turn into a trilogy. Weak sales early on could lead to a lower budget for its respective sequels. Fans of the first would see the game they love dragged through the dirt as the developers work with diminished funds to try and finish the story arc to keep gamers at bay. This will not be the case, thank god, and we can all sleep easier knowing that we will see the journey of Desmond Miles come to an end.

I really enjoyed it, but I think you had to have the right mentality going into the game. I guess it could have been better, but it certainly has me wishing for more storyline.
