Rumor: BioShock 2 Details Leak like Rapture

Co-Op? Russians? Squids?

by Coop

The Game Informer cover story has been cracked open and spilled all over the internet, revealing some juicy details about BioShock 2. There's some good, some bad, and a whole lot of information that might be considered spoilers, if the opening cut scene could be considered a spoiler. Either way, be warned that the information below might give away a little more information than you might want to know.

UPDATE: Changing this to a rumor, apparently the source's credibility might be shot. A 2K rep posted the following:

"Please do not believe everything you read on the internet.

This rumor circulating is not true.

Grab the Game Informer magazine. It's shipped out and should be to subscribers and on store shelves really soon."

As expected, players will take control of Private Investigator Jack Abbott, a man investigating the mysterious disappearances of young women. After his own daughter is kidnapped by a Big Sister (there won't be any Big Daddies this time around), Jack begins an investigation that takes him right into the middle of Rapture, everyone's favorite underwater dystopia. Apparently found by a soviet submarine, the city is crawling with Russians attempting to use ADAM to their advantage, leaving Jack as the only defense. Soviet enemies are said to be much smarter, finding cover and flanking. This is a huge improvement over the original Splicers, which were essentially loud zombies with revolvers. Other enemies, like genetically spliced dogs and bipedal robots, will also populate Rapture. Thankfully, Jack will have more plasmids at his disposal, including the ability to slow down time and the power to read minds. It's turning into Red Alert: BioShock edition all of a sudden, and I couldn't be more excited.

The city itself has seen better times as well, and in the seven years since the first trip the conditions have deteriorated even more. Some areas, the article says, are so bad that Jack must don a diving suit to be able to traverse the area, opening up more of the underwater city for exploration. Including a zoo. With a rhino. And a giant squid. Spliced with ADAM. Freaking awesome.

There's also going to be cooperative multiplayer, but there's no information past that. For as much as I love co-op and BioShock I don't know how well they'll mix, but I'm trying to stay optimistic. The plot, albeit a little strange at first, really does make sense, and the late 50's were kind of defined by the Cold War, so it isn't too much of a stretch. We'll be sure to follow this game as if our lives depended on it, so be sure to check back for all of the BioShock 2 news you can handle.

System Shock 2 got patched to have 4 player co-op, and it was actually really awesome. I'm sure BioShock's co-op will be good too.
