Now this doesn't involve Gears of War 3! Rumors are abound that 2K has finally left the planning stages for the BioShock MMORPG, finally going through with the project and developing the online world of Rapture. Actually, that has a nice ring to it. We're banking on it being called World of Rapture (or WoR for short), actually. Be right back, I need to buy a domain name. Suckers.
Destructoid is citing a mysterious source that may or may not be making it up. It also may or may not be a Pokemon. While this normally may not be basis for speculation or reporting, it does coincide with earlier reports that the publisher was looking to expand into the MMOspace. They've even specifically said that BioShock would be a good outlet for such an endeavor, adding more credence to the rumor. BioShock 2's inclusion of multiplayer may have even been a testing ground for such a product, since it seemed to have come out of left field when it was announced. It being tied in to this mystery MMO (WoR, remember), would clear some stuff up.
We've reached out to 2K for a comment, and expect a prompt "no comment" from their PR team. Then again, they might drop the ball and reply with "Wait, who told you!?," before catching themselves and trying to pretend that they were just joking. You know, playing kiddingsies, or what have you. My money is on the first option, though.
