Borderlands TV Spot Hits

Ain't No Rest for the Wicked

by Coop

I'll tell you what, in recent memory, no developers have put together as awesome of trailers as Gearbox has with Borderlands. They've found fantastic music that works well with their hyper-stylized shooter/RPG hybrid, edited together some great gameplay, and mixed in a few gallons of laugh-out-loud humor to boot. The first trailer released did a wonderful job at showing exactly how tongue-in-cheek the mood is, while presenting the graphics in a way that would turn any cel-shading haters into converts in moments. Now, with their first television commercial (above), they hope to extend that past the internet onto the wild world of cable.

I could go on a "they've done it again!" rant, but I don't think I have to. They can handle themselves, obviously, as the video shows. With correct placement on TV, I think this ad has a shot at pulling in some people who don't think they can wait for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, especially the crowd that thought Fallout was a little too much RPG and not enough pew-pew.

The game is out next week, and be sure to look online to see most of Gamervision spending every waking moment in the Borderlands, praying the gameplay is as good as it looks. Fingers crossed. Like, really, really crossed.

That song is wonderful. Can I borrow someone's screwdriver so I can gouge it out of my brain?
