Brawl is Worth the Wait

Famitsu Gives it 40/40

by Coop

Nintendo doesn’t like giving gamers bad news. With the recent month delay of Super Smash Brothers: Brawl, there comes a glimmer of hope for the game. Many of the worries with the delay were that there was a problem with the gameplay and they were scurrying to fix an issue – it appears this was not the case. Japanese gaming magazine and “tough crowd” Famitsu has scored Brawl with its highest honor: a perfect score. In its magazine’s history there have been a select few that have attained a 40/40, Smash Brothers being number seven in the company's history.

Here is, as I like to call them now, the Magnificent Seven.

  1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998, Nintendo, for Nintendo 64)
  2. Soulcalibur (1999, Namco, for Dreamcast)
  3. Vagrant Story (2000, Square Co., Ltd., for PlayStation)
  4. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2003, Nintendo for Nintendo GameCube)
  5. Nintendogs (2005, Nintendo, for Nintendo DS)
  6. Final Fantasy XII (2006, Square Enix, for PlayStation 2)
  7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008, Nintendo, for Wii)

This is only the second fighting game to ever make the list, the first being the original Soulcalibur, and also the first game for the Nintendo Wii to make the cut. Not that there was any doubt in our minds anyway, but it is good to see that the Brawl it is worth the wait and the Wii will have another killer game come March.

Famitsu responds well to money. Remember when the gave Red Steel 34/40? Regardless of this controversial magazine's score, I imagine this game will be awesome,
