Brett Ratner to Direct God of War Movie
Cry Me a River, X3 Wasn’t THAT Bad

“David Self’s credits include 13 Days and Road To Perdition. He wrote God of War for Universal, to which Brett Ratner is attached to direct, and was a writer on Universal’s Wolfman currently in production."
The collective internets have exploded at the above quote, seemingly confirming Brett Ratner's role in the God of War movie. You know, the movie that will probably never get made? That one.
People are losing their mind over the "epic story" of a Greek guy being tricked by the gods into killing a bunch of people over a large amount of somewhat Greek-themed levels. The series, in its own right, is great, bringing innovation to gameplay. On the story side it is just barely a skeleton to bring a stereotypical videogame character from battle to battle, and while it seems great at the time actually go back and replay them, the gameplay holds up, but the story? Not so much.
Could it be made into a better movie than Ratner could make? Possibly. But don't forget that shock-horror movie director Peter Jackson directed the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Sam Raimi directed Evil Dead before moving to Spider-Man. Give the guy a chance, he hasn't butchered any game franchises yet, so he isn't as bad as, say, Uwe Boll, it could still turn out all right. Plus, we still have Max Payne to get excited over.
