The original Brothers in Arms received critical acclaim for its realistic combat and focus on group mechanics as opposed to the Call of Duty run-and-gun approach to war. Instead of one man killing hundreds of people as he ran through the game it was a squad of people fighting in realistic battles. Brothers in Arms DS distances itself from that concept. Some trimming needed to take place due to the limitations of the Nintendo handheld.

The graphics are just as good as any PSP shooter to date, which surprised me. There is never a time where the visuals get in the way of the gameplay and they actually impress more than they let down. The controls are fantastic. Anyone who has played Metroid Prime: Hunters should be familiar with the controls as they are nearly identical. All player movement is done with the D-Pad (or the buttons for out left handed gamers in the room) and the aiming is accomplished with the touch screen. Shooting is done with the triggers and all other actions are a located on the bottom screen.

The single player mode takes up the bulk of the game with a huge number of levels to keep you engaged. Sadly, most of the levels tend to the shorter side and as such, the game doesn't have lasting appeal. It is definitely worth a play but the lack of single cart multiplayer or wifi multiplayer stops this game from being worth a buy. I look forward to a more complete version of this game in the coming years that will hopefully make it more than a happy stroll through Normandy.
