Burnout Paradise Bikes Now Available

Or, in Automobile, “Vroom, Vroom”

by Coop

The much anticipated Motorcycle Update for Burnout Paradise is now available for free on both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. I’ve been waiting on this for a while, but with Pure, Crysis: Warhead, The Force Unleashed, and Warhammer Online sitting on my desk I’m not sure I’ll have time to play it, despite being assaulted on Xbox Live by Gamervision members to do so.

Give me some time, guys; a man needs room to breathe! The greenskins in Warhammer aren't going to kill themselves! Starkiller is useless without me! And don't even get me started on Psycho in Crysis, he's useless without my control. These bikes will have to wait.

Here is what Criterion has to say about the update:

Burnout Bikes

  • Pick from 2 motorcycles featuring male or female characters and start on a whole new progression to earn your Bike License.
  • 38 new against-the-clock race events – Burning Ride and Midnight Ride.
  • A brand new in-game 24 hr day / night cycle that impacts traffic density and available events.  (It's fully customisable – you can make it day/night/change the clock speed – it's up to you.)
  • Dynamic weather brings an all-new look to Paradise City
  • And if that's not enough, we've got 70 more Freeburn Challenges too
Freeburn is Burnout’s uninterrupted drop-in / drop-out online play.  It’s a cool collaborative experience, so it's all about hanging out with your friends, messing around in vehicles while racing, pulling tricks and crashing in a massive open world city.

Bikes Challenges

If 420 fun, co-operative challenges aren’t enough to keep you and your friends occupied, the Bike Pack throws a further 70 to the mix.

These bike-exclusive challenges are split 50:50 between regular challenges and timed, against-the-clock challenges for those that enjoy a little more intensity.

Bikes Dirt Jump

I really wish this came out last month, but now it's up against Pure, and I really, really like Pure. I mean, sure, it doesn't have the world's prettiest crashes like Paradise does, but it's fun, and new, and I like new things. Maybe I'll pop in Burnout in the near future, who knows, I should at least download the update. It is free, after all.

Anyone get a chance to mess around with this yet? I'd love to hear if I'm missing out on anything fantastic.

But what happens when you crash? Do you fly off your bike, stay on it, or just disappear?

If you hit a wall head-on, you simply reappear a few feet from it. If you hit a car, you get a brief glimpse of a riderless bike skidding across the pavement. Bikes take zero damage. They also have no boost, but are really fast.
Nighttime Paradise City is a beauty to behold. The new Midnight/Burning rides are great too. A nice touch with the day/night cycle is you can sync it up with your current time wherever you live. Riding in Paradise in real-time is pretty cool, especially during the sunset.

Man, I just saw this. Now I feel bad for asking Coop to play with me last night. Sorry, Coop!

Yes, I like the day/night cycle... no more being blinded by the sun ;)

Sounds pretty cool. I loved the demo, I loved the previous few Burnout games, and the game came highly recommended, but for some reason, I never picked it up. I may need to do something about that...after Fable II, Fallout 3, NBA 2K9, Gears 2, Left 4 Dead......
