Burnout Paradise to Receive Free DLC

Islands Filled with Scrap Metal

by Coop

It has been hinted for a week or so now that Burnout Paradise, aside from receiving downloadable content in the form of vehicles, would feature Islands to explore. Islands do make the most sense for adding new areas to the game, as the open world is pretty much full.

In a discussion about downloadable content and new vehicles on Criteron’s official forum, developer “Alex” posted the following:
I think we'll make you work for some of these.

And one more thing, the islands will all be FREE.

That’s right, racing fans, an EA published game is going to feature free downloadable content. Good DLC too, not some Horse Armor crap. This is good news to anyone who has memorized the streets of Paradise City better than their own town, but bad news for developers who continue to charge for things that should be free.

If Criterion isn’t charging for an entire new area, how can a developer justify charging for a new character skin? If this trend continues, I think we will begin to see either better downloadable content or more free stuff – either is good.

I reviewed the game a while back and called it one of the best racing games ever made. Hopefully this new content will make it even better, and Criterion will continue support for this beautiful and universally beloved title.
