Cell Phone Game Reviews' 2
Electric Boogaloo
by Coop
Cell phone games are really hit or miss and with the lack of functional demos available there is no way to find out if your five bucks is going to a good cause. Gamervision.com has struck a deal with Verizon Wireless to bring cell phone game reviews to you. Every weekend I will have a few reviews to check out, all games that are playable on the average cell phone. Because of how small the games are and the lack of a true way to “rent” them, there will be no score out of ten and no “rent it” option. It’s buy or trash on this show, I hope you enjoy it. If you have any requests for a game that you have seen that caught your eye, tell me about it and I will work it into the next Episode!
Scrabble
When I saw Scrabble on the list of titles available for cellular phones I snapped it up without a second thought. Since then I have spent hours appeasing my inner English geek by being brutally beaten by the computer. The game is one of the few that doesn’t lose any of its glory when shrunk down to a miniature size and is perfect for pick up and play word nerds.

While the computer does seem to be on the cheap side (a few inches from the “cheating side”) the game had a good transition from tabletop to cellular. Hitting end or closing the phone does a quick save of the current state – a good addition for on the go gamers.

God of War: Betrayal
God of War brings fun and fast action to all of the platforms it is on. Somehow the same gory wonder stayed fresh on the small mobile platform. While a little light on the story, the overall presentation of the game is remarkable.

Combat is easy to learn and allows for many of the combos that the series is known for and the graphics and sound are both top notch. A major bonus is having a nice cell phone for this one, the controls are important and a nice large d-pad can do wonders. While action and adventure games don’t make the best cell phone titles, God of War: Betrayal is a stand out game with more polish then I ever expected to see on the several hundred pixel screen.
Sim City
Suffering from some of the same problems that Sim City DS faced (but drastically worse), the mobile version struggles to be a playable title. Graphically it looks like the earlier titles in the series and offers fewer options then its other mobile counterparts.

The controls are straight rubbish and the game lags to a point where it doesn’t seem worth the effort to play. For die hard Sim City fans who are willing to deal with the games sub-par gameplay this could be a potential buy, but for the rest of us I wouldn’t recommend touching it.

If you have any requests for a game that you have seen that caught your eye, tell me about it and I will work it into the next Episode! Either post it as a comment here or e-mail me at Coop@Gamervision.com.
