Child's Play

Where Gamers Give Back

by Coop

We gamers have got it pretty good. With some of the best games ever developed coming out one after another, this year was particularly fantastic. I personally spent over $300 on games in just the past few months. With as good as we have it, and all the joy games have brought to our lives, it is important to think of how to spread that joy to others, especially at this time of year. Let’s face it: we can at least afford to try.

To that end, the Child’s Play Charity is something I can get behind. Child’s Play’s stated goal is to give video games to sick children, in the hope of making their trying times just a little better. Since 2003, they have given children’s hospitals millions of dollars in the form of books, games, and cash. These donations have gone right to the kids who need them most.

You’re probably saying to yourself, “Great Coop! But what can I do?”

I’m so glad you asked! There are plenty of ways for you to help Child’s Play. Donating money or new game systems is the most direct way, but promoting awareness is just as important. Their website has flyers to print out to bring more attention to their mission.

Just think about how much it would mean to you if you were sick in a hospital and you found out that someone donated an Xbox 360 or Nintendo DS, just so you can enjoy a few hours of gaming. Imagine how much that would help, and how very little it would take from you to have that become a reality for someone.

During this season of reflection and giving thanks, reaching out to those who need our help is the greatest achievement you could hope for!
